Fear of Success is Greater than Fear of Failure

Warning This article may cause you to get mad at yourself.

What if you quadrupled your success, however you define it today? The definition of success changes as we pass through different phases and chapters of our lives.

Success in my 20s was how many bars I could make it to on Friday and Saturday. Success in my 30s was sometimes paying the bills. Success in my 40s was generating revenue and finding balance with work, family, and fun. Yes, the one big regret is that work was first. It should have been family, friends, fun, and then work. However, I don’t believe we would have had the income to enjoy family and friends if work did not come first back then. Success in my 50s was defined by family, work, friends, and quality of life. Now in my 60s, success means: the people I love, know I love them.

We all have different definitions of success based on our current situation, the experiences life has given us, and the purpose we have found and expect to find. So, what if you quadrupled your success?

How would this change your daily activities, your relationships, and your constant internal thoughts?

How would it change where you spend your time and money?

Would this success force you to let go of some relationships that bring you down?

Would it force you to gain different habits? What new mindset would you have?

Would it modify your lifestyle so much you’d need a new nametag?

This change is often scarier than failure. Failure teaches us what not to do. But it also allows us to stay in our comfort zone. It’s an easy way to avoid the changes that are forced with greater success.

We are as individuals just like a business. If you run a business that is doing $10MM and you want to be $30MM you MUST begin running your business as a $30MM business runs. New Systems, processes, talent, operations, finance, and output MUST be put in place immediately. Only then will you grow to $30MM.

If quadrupling your success is what you want, you first must change your mindset. Then, begin by doing the things you would do as if you already have it. Whatever you think about most will manifest itself into current reality. Fear and doubt are the demons of growth. Do it anyway, and you will be surprised at how effortless it is to quadruple your success.

What do you see is in the way of others quadrupling their success?
